Hashgraph is proud to join the Agentic AI Foundation (AAIF), an open initiative under the Linux Foundation dedicated to advancing standards and collaboration for the agentic internet. As a Founding Member and the official Hedera ecosystem representative, Hashgraph joins a stacked list of global contributors committed to building interoperable, open infrastructure for AI agents, as announced in the press release.
The AAIF brings together projects and participants working to standardize how AI agents communicate, transact, and interoperate across platforms. As agents increasingly move from passive assistants to autonomous actors capable of executing complex tasks, the need for shared protocols, governance, and security frameworks becomes critical, especially when it comes to enabling agents to make payments and do commerce on behalf of human users. Hashgraph joined AAIF to ensure that Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) plays a central role in that future, utilizing the unique capabilities of Hedera’s technology to power programmable payments with low and predictable fees, cross-border settlement, and verifiable consensus.
Hedera is already a well-known member of Linux Foundation Decentralized Trust (LFDT), with its landmark open source code contribution as project Hiero in September 2024. Hashgraph provides leadership through involvement in LF Decentralized Trusts’s Governing Board and Technical Advisory Council. With this background, Hedera is well positioned to serve as a strategic partner within AAIF, to incorporate knowledge about Linux Foundation & Open Source Software (OSS) best practices. Hedera is uniquely positioned to establish key connections between Agentic AI and Distributed Ledger Technology within the Linux Foundation ecosystem, helping to lay the foundation for future standards that support micropayments, digital identity, and trusted agent interactions through decentralized approaches.
Features of the Hedera network, such as programmability and the Hedera Consensus Service (HCD), also add significant value to agentic commerce solutions. With the Hedera network, developers are able to embed deterministic guardrails directly into transaction logic, including spending limits, policy controls, and identity-linked permissions. This technology makes secure and controlled agentic payments possible by design. HCS also offers tamper-resistant ordering and auditability, which are foundational for trusted agent-to-agent and agent-to-platform interaction.
Hashgraph’s collaboration in this area also aligns with its work on Hedera AI Studio, specifically building tools and infrastructure to enable secure, payment-capable AI agents. Hashgraph believes that the next evolution of the internet will involve agents that not only retrieve information but take action. This includes making purchases, accessing paid APIs, transacting for digital goods, and enabling entirely new micropayment-based business models. Through Hedera AI Studio, Hashgraph is developing SDKs, integrations, and commerce tooling that simplify how developers and enterprises build agents capable of transacting with HBAR and USDC on Hedera, securely and at scale.
Open-source tooling is available through the Hashgraph GitHub repository for the Hedera Agent Kit. Developers are encouraged to explore the SDK, build plugins, experiment with agent-driven commerce use cases, and contribute to shaping the standards emerging from AAIF.
